How to Root AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Motochopper Utility

A root tool has been released for the AT&T variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone. Read this entire post and make sure that you don’t skip any steps that are listed in it and you will be able to root your device at your first attempt without problems.
Rooting your device is a necessary task for users who want to open up tons of other hidden options, which are usually blocked by Samsung and AT&T bloatware data. A root will allow you to install new kernels, ROMs, mods, themes and multiple other customization files that are developed for Galaxy S4 owners who want to improve their Jelly Bean experience.
Also, if you root your device with Motochopper tool by djrbliss, an XDA member and developer of this app, you will manage to SIM Unlock the device and still get the latest firmware updates that will be released in the future by AT&T / Samsung. Note that in case you root your device then after applying an official OTA Update by Samsung, you will see that the root access has been revoked and data might get lost in the process. That’s why you should use this post only if you know what you’re doing.
In order to successfully root your phone with this tutorial, you should first take a look at the guidelines below:
  • the Galaxy S4 I337 AT&T model is the only smartphone that will work with this tutorial.
  • don’t use this guide with any other Galaxy S4 model, as you will end up bricking it.
  • make sure that your computer has all the Samsung USB Drivers installed on it. If yours doesn’t then you should download and install them using this link here.
  • enable the Developer Options from your phone’s Settings menu like this: open Settings from App Drawer, then click the ‘More’ tab and scroll down to ‘About device’ menu and open it. After you press the 7th time on it, the Galaxy S4 will notify you that the Developer Options are enabled.
  • IMPORTANT: Return to the ‘More’ tab and click the Developer Options button. Now you have to enable the ‘USB Debugging’ option. This will connect the phone with your PC and allow you to root its ROM.

  • we cannot be blamed in case you brick your AT&T Galaxy S4.
  • this is a tutorial that has to be used by an advanced Android user.
  • by rooting your smartphone, you will lose the warranty. As I’ve told already, the warranty can be restored when you unroot or install an official OTA Update from Samsung and AT&T.
  • make sure that the phone’s battery has enough power left before switching off completely.
  • if you have problems completing this guide, then you should ask for extra help in comments. Make sure to leave a detailed comment comprising all the steps you took and where you got stuck, so that we will be able to offer you a viable solution and help you root your Galaxy S4.

As you already know, this Motochopper tool for your Galaxy S4 AT&T phone doesn’t install any custom Recovery images. But, you can use our guide HERE and learn how to successfully install CWM or TWRP Recovery for your phone. A custom Recovery allows you to flash numerous other custom files such as ROMs, Kernels, Themes, Mods etc.
If you’re looking for a custom ROM for your AT&T Galaxy S4 device, take a look in our Update section that’s dedicated for this particular smartphone.
Remember that if you install any custom ROMs or other customization files, then the OTA Updates from Samsung will stop from being sent to your device.
