This guide should be applied by Android advanced users and in case you’re a beginner then I strongly advise you to seek a friends who is more skilled when it comes to using CWM, ODIN and other similar Androis software. If you root your device you will gain access to its sub-system settings and along with CWM Recovery you will then be able to install new custom ROMs that should improve the overall performances for your Tab 2 tablet.
Rooting your Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 isn’t too hard to apply, but you need to know that you will first have to read the preparation guide. The Root can be applied using the CWM Recovery software. So, if your tablet doesn’t have clockworkmod recovery installed, then you follow its tutorial guide here. Now that you know all this general info, I think that you should move to the preparation guide and learn how to properly configure your device so that you will manage to root it from your first attempt. Here’s what you need to know:
- this root tutorial can be applied only on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with these particular model numbers: GT P 5100, GT P5110 and GT P5113. Do not attempt to use this software on other different tablets or smartphones.
- Install the USB Drivers for Galaxy Tab 2 so that your device will be recognized when connected to your PC. These drivers can be installed using Samsung KIES or you can go to Samsung website. Please note that after you install the Samsung USB Drivers you will need to close completely Samsung KIES program.
- Rooting your device will void your warranty and it will increase the flash or download counter functions on your Galaxy Tab 2.
- Make sure that all antivirus / antimalware programs are disabled, as we don’t want them to block the rooting process.
- Charge the tablet’s battery until it goes over the 70% power level.
- Enable the debugging mode.
- It is recommended for you to backup all the important files by moving them on your computer or you can choose to move them to your device’s external sdcard.
- If you wish to backup applications, SMS, Call Logs or APN Settings, then you should use these specific programs: AppBAK for Android apps backups | SMS backup & restore | Call Logs backup & restore | APN Backup & Restore.
How to root Samsung Galaxy Tab 2:
- Download the root zip files by clicking the download links below:
- For Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) model number GT P5113 download the ‘cwm-root-gtab2.zip’ file.
- For Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) model number GT P5100 or the GT P5110 download the ‘cwm-root-gta2a.zip’ file.
- Now copy the root zip package on the root of your device’s external sdcard, the one located at /mnt/extSdCard. Please note that you shouldn’t copy it on the internal memory as this one cannot be viewed in CWM Recovery. After the transfer is complete you need to disconnect it from your computer.
- Next, power off the tablet.
- Boot into CWM Recovery. Press and hold ‘volume down’ and ‘Power’ buttons simultaneously and the Samsung logo will appear, and then let go of the Power button, but keep Volume Down pressed.
- When you’re in the clockworkmod recovery menu, you should first select ‘install zip from sdcard’. Find the file you moved at step 2 and then confirm that you wish to install.
- After the root zip has been applied, you will have to get abck to the main recovery screen where the ‘reboot system now’ option is located. Select it and your tablet device will now restart.
- After the reboot is complete you should open the application drawer and check to see if the ‘SuperUser’ icon is listed. If it isn’t then you will have to visit Google Play Store and install SuperUser.
Please note that in case the root wasn’t applied, then you should repeat all the steps listed above. Remember to use the comments section to ask for our help. Also, if you have any extra tips and tricks then please feel free to tell us.
