Use CF-Root Tool to gain root access for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100

Chainfire from XDA developers managed to create a new tool that would allow users of Note 2 N7100 to root their devices easily. This tutorial only helps you root the phone as it doesn’t install CWM Recovery, click here to root and install ClockworkMod Recovery image. Use this guide if you wish to root your Note 2 and you’re not bothered by using the stock Samsung recovery image.
If you’re only interesting in rooting your devices and not installing the CWM recovery then you should continue reading this post. Read the preparation guidelines first and only after you’re done with them, you should move to the part of this post. Note that in case you root your Note 2, you might lose your warranty and this can be restore only if you restore your device to a stock Samsung firmware, which will also revoke any root access.
Now that you’ve read all the above general details, you should move to the preparation guide instructions below:
Apply the root files only on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 model number N7100. It will not work with any US models and you shouldn’t attempt to install the root on any other Android devices. Find your phone’s device number by opening the ‘About device’ menu in the ‘Settings’ menu.

• Create backups of all your important files. There are very slim chances for you to lose any data in the process, but it would be better if you’d create backups so that in case something does go wrong then you can easily restore your favorite files such as photos, music, bookmarks etc.
• Your PC needs to have the Samsung KIES software installed on your device, so that your device will be recognized when connected. If you don’t want to install Samsung KIES, then you can download the Samsung USB Drivers for your OS: Windows 32 bit ( x86) or for Windows 64 bit (x64).
• While you’re using ODIN and you’re about to install the CF-Root files, the antivirus and other security programs should not be running on your computer, as these might block the root installation.
• Make sure that you first read the entire tutorial and only when you’re sure that you can complete the install, then you can move to the root guide.
• Note that we cannot be blamed in case you damage your device in the process. This tutorial should be applied only by advanced Android users and you shouldn’t attempt to use this guide in case you’re a novice.

How to root the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 with CF-Root by Chainfire:

1. Download the CF-Root zip file for N7100 from HERE. Save the file on you PC and after the download is complete you should extract its contents in a single folder on your desktop screen. You should get a ‘.tar’ extension. Don’t extract the file any further.
2. Download ODIN zip from HERE. This is the Windows we’re gonna use in order to flash the root.  After the download is complete you should extract its contents and place them in a single folder on your computer. There should be ODIN executable file.
3. Power off your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and then wait for 10 seconds to pass.
4. Boot your Note 2 into Android Download Mode. Do it by pressing ‘volume down’ + ‘home’ + ‘power’ buttons. When the screen powers ON you should release the buttons and then press ‘Volume up’ and select ‘Download Mode’ boot.
5. Make sure the Samsung KIES software is not running and launch the Odin executable. After ODIN launches you should connect the phone to your computer via USB cable.
6. Odin should display a confirmation message saying ‘Added!!’. This means that the phone was recognized by ODIN and you can continue to the next step. In case the ADDED alert is not shown, then you should try to plug the USB cable in other USB ports or you can retry to install the Samsung USB drivers.
7. If ODIN recognized your Note 2, click on ‘PDA’ button from its main window. Now browse your computer for the CF-ROOT SGN2 .tar file and load it into ODIN.
8. Don’t change any default ODIN settings. Make sure that the Re-Partition option is not selected. Now you can click the ‘START’ button and the flash process of the CF-Root kernel will begin. This process shouldn’t take more than 2 minutes. When the root is complete you should see a ‘PASS’ alert message displayed by ODIN and the Note 2 will reboot.
9. When the phone restarts and you’re seeing the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 boot logo, you can unplug the phone from PC. The device will continue its boot normally and then you should see the Samsung home screen.
10. That’s it, you’ve successfully flashed the root kernel and you’ve gained root access on your Galaxy Note 2 N7100.

NOTE: In case ODIN freezes or the root process is not completed and you get a ‘FAIL’ message, then you should unplug the phone from PC and the close ODIN. Remove the Note 2 battery for 5 seconds and then place it back in its location. Power ON the device into Download Mode once again and then repeat the entire root process starting with step 4.
That should do it, you should’ve successfully managed to apply the root files and now your device should present root access. Remember that this root will not install CWM Recovery on your device and this means that you’re stuck with the stock Samsung recovery image.
